New colors, shapes and flavors bring excitement to the table, and we enjoy helping growers, grocers and restaurateurs introduce new fresh produce innovations. Over the years, the industry has looked to Oppenheimer and our suppliers for new varieties, packaging formats and merchandising schemes. We put our products to work, sharing proprietary market research with industry partners to benefit all parties involved in the transaction.

New variety development

People are always looking for new, better tasting varieties to serve their families. In tandem with our grower-partners, Oppenheimer has helped develop the market for many exciting items over the years. These include: Japanese Aoshima mandarins, ZESPRI™ GOLD Kiwifruit and Taylor's Gold pears. Our premium greenhouse family has grown to include Amorosa cocktail tomatoes, Rosso Bruno tomatoes, and super-sweet strawberry tomatoes. Starting with Granny Smith in 1956, we have introduced a wide spectrum of apples from New Zealand, including Braeburn, ENZA Pacific Rose™, Jazz™ and Southern Rose™. Just for fun, we imported North America's first square watermelons, lemon plums and star-shaped lemons.

Market research

Our marketing and category analysts are constantly observing the dynamic local and international markets, seeking new opportunities, and adjusting our product mix to suit the needs of our buyers. As regional tastes and nutrition preferences evolve, we provide the personalized information our customers need to adapt quickly and stay competitive.

Our micro-marketing experts evaluate demographic characteristics surrounding individual retail store locations. We can identify niche strategies, including shelf placement, optimal pricing and product mix to help manage sales and volume movement in targeted categories.

We also work directly with our growers to obtain the strategic intelligence about trends in production and in the growing areas themselves. We anticipate key issues and help our customers prepare. Our in-house trade and consumer research professionals also help growers and retailers delve into areas of interest and provide insightful analysis.

Packaging development

In the spirit of unified branding, product differentiation and volume sales, we offer custom packaging services. A full line of Oppenheimer-branded cases, clamshells, trays and bags are available to our entire grower network, but we also produce private label and design grower-branded packaging to serve specific needs.

We are proud to offer sustainable packaging solutions in home compostable Earthcycle trays made of palm fiber, and biodegradable plastic bags made with EPI Global’s totally degradable plastics additive. All of our corrugate cases are made with 50% post-consumer materials, and our clamshell containers are 100% recyclable.
